The Place Stanislas

Labours of the place Stanislas started in 1752. Ordered by the duke de Lorraine, Stanislas Lezczinski, in favour of Louis XV. During the unveiling of this Royal Place, in 1755, ua big statue of the king Louis XV sits enthroned in the centre. It will be necessary to wait for 1831 to see this statue replaced by Stanislas' actual statue checking off the northwith his finger

South side of the Place, you can see the monumental facade of the town hall.

On the west side, there are two buildings: one is the Museum of the Fine arts of Nancy. on the east side, the Opera of Nancy and the hotel of the Queen edge the place. Finally in the north, the Gate Héré (of the name of the architect which constructed the place) marks transition between the Place Stanislas and the Place of Career.

It is also in the north where you can find the both fountains of the Place Stanislas: the Fountain of Amphitrite and the Fountain of Neptune.

Basilica Saint-Epvre

Not so far from the Place of Career you can discover a splendid monument: Basilica Saint-Epvre.

Having constructed between 1436 and 1451, the church is promoted basilica minor in 1874, by privilege granted by the pope Pius IX.
